When I’m tired and every day feels challenging, I remind myself that this is my path, and I must summon the strength, courage, and determination because I know that what awaits me at the finish line is worth every drop of sweat, and sometimes even tears. In each of my articles, I emphasize that success is not achieved overnight. Success is the result of our consistent actions over an extended period, eventually leading us to victory. Systematic action is the key here, with a consistent schedule of actions aimed at our goals, which is necessary to fulfill our dreams. However, it was only after several years of working with a well-thought-out calendar, in which I scheduled daily tasks to bring me closer to my goals, that I truly grasped the significance of this approach. It turns out that a daily schedule and daily rituals enable us not only to work towards our future but also to fully embrace the present, which is desired by many as ‘here and now.’

Thanks to a well-developed plan and systematic, repetitive activities, we become familiar with their course. Knowing what comes next allows us to focus on the present moment and experience it fully, as we’re not constantly thinking about ‘what to do next.’ In my e-book, ‘Organize Your Life,’ I discuss the importance of planning even seemingly mundane activities, such as personal hygiene. Without going into extensive detail, which spans several pages, the repetition of processes during, for example, a shower enables us to focus on the present moment, feeling the water flowing down our bodies, the scent of the shower gel, and the warmth on our skin. In contrast, when we’re in the shower, our thoughts often drift to the following day and creating lists of tasks. The schedule is not meant to create a new obsession or area of control but to help us avoid a constant race of thoughts.

While reading Eckhart Tolle’s ‘The Power of the Present,’ I gained an understanding of our ‘restless mind’ and the daily sense of dissatisfaction, lack, and emptiness we experience in the ‘now,’ which leads us to focus on ‘I will be’ instead of ‘I am.’ The ego, which opposes our true self, gives us a false sense of self-worth and security. It develops as we receive feedback from our environment that we are insufficient. The stream of thoughts is directly related to our ego – we ponder about ‘what if’ things were better, ‘what if’ we had given a better response, and we imagine an ideal future. We become prisoners of our intellect. We constantly desire more, aiming for improvement and perfection, and we identify with the false image in our minds. Evaluating and judging thoughts are products of the ego, whereas thoughts without judgment are tools of our mind and are closely connected to our ego.

Being ‘here and now’ entails recognizing who we are and what the truth represents. We must utilize our minds as tools for living in the present. The key is to learn to silence our racing thoughts, and we can achieve this through planning, creating a schedule, while always remembering that the ultimate goal is to exist in the ‘now.’

When our self-confidence grows, our ego hungers for future perfection. We sense ‘lack’ when we pause, and it’s the ego’s role to divert us from this uncomfortable feeling of lack. Consequently, we experience a flurry of thoughts and tasks, concentrating on external accomplishments and activities. True fulfillment only arises when we are present, in the now, allowing us to draw from within. You may not fully comprehend it with your mind, although I strive to explain it 😛; you can feel it, but the fullness of existence is only realized when we quiet our restless minds. At that moment, we feel that we possess everything and need nothing because we are whole in ourselves. The ego craves excess, while the true self is minimalist, sufficient, and complete without excess.

Ewa Baszun and I delve into this topic in one of the episodes on our youtube channel, and you can watch it below.

As a youth, Hercules was different from other teenagers. He was not socially accepted and was considered a freak, a rarity of nature. From this lack of acceptance and the trauma of rejection, a profound need for belonging emerged, and his ego generated an even stronger desire for fame and recognition. Thoughts raced through his mind about the allure of fame – to be praised, applauded, appreciated, and loved. It wasn’t until the conclusion of his journey that he experienced enlightenment and understood the true essence of his aspirations. He realized that the strength of a hero resides in the heart, and that glory is unnecessary. Even when he had it, he still felt emptiness and scarcity. It was only then that he comprehended the real meaning of being a true hero.

The story is a wonderful fairy tale that touches upon dreams, the search for one’s own path, love, and acceptance. However, as I grow older and my mind occasionally fixates on the idea of fame, I no longer view it merely as an exceptional piece of cinematography.
Pushing into the unknown runs counter to our survival instinct. Quite simply, you’re afraid of what waits around the riverbend. The mind prefers what’s familiar—it provides stability and safety, which are essential for a peaceful life. Routine isn’t just convenient; it makes things predictable. That’s why you subconsciously repeat even harmful childhood patterns—because they’re familiar, “safe,” almost automatic. And yet, when you look back, you don’t remember the days that flowed in the same rhythm; you remember the ones that broke the pattern. Most often, the very happy moments—or the very hard ones. Have you ever talked with an old classmate and reminisced, “Remember how we got up every day, went to school, studied, and ate our sandwiches at break?” No! We’re more likely to say, “Remember how we got lost on the class trip?” or “Remember that exam three quarters of the year failed?”

New experiences allow you to grow. The world is much bigger than your neighborhood. If you sit for years in the same job, in the same position, with the same people, shop at the same store, drive the same car, and watch the same shows every evening, your life will fade. You’ll start suffocating in a gilded cage you built for yourself, imprisoned by unchanging beliefs and prejudices.

In almost every interview with older entrepreneurs, millionaires, or simply happy people, the same idea appears: “Take risks while you can.
What saves us in this situation are precisely those persistent longings—we can try to dismiss them, but we can’t forget them. It also helps to remember we have only this moment, only one life, and there won’t be a second chance. By choosing safe, risk-free options, you agree never to find out what might have happened if you’d set off in pursuit of adventure. Most of us know perfectly well what we “should do” or what the “safe solution” is—and out of fear we often choose exactly that.

But what if you had nothing to lose and could do anything? It’s an excellent exercise for discovering what you truly want to do with your life. Imagine that neither money nor obligations limit you. What would you do with your life?

I answered that question less than a year ago and concluded I’d be a well-known influencer: I’d record videos for YouTube and TikTok, write blogs, then publish a book, sing, and create in general. A friend then asked me, “OK, sounds great—so what’s stopping you?” After a longer conversation it turned out the main obstacle was me: fear of failure and ridicule, and losing financial stability. I worked through it, and that’s why I’m writing a blog today. I’m not famous yet, but I know what I need to do to get there.

In her song, Pocahontas also sees the safe course she could take—marrying Kocoum, the steady and respected future chief of the village. But she can’t resist the pull of what lies on unknown ground. She asks herself whether she should stop dreaming and settle into a stable life. Deep down she knows that would mean a kind of spiritual death for her.

Hunger, danger, and fear can do fascinating things to people — they change us irreversibly. When faced with a threat, some of us instinctively start hoarding whatever we can to secure our future. We witnessed this not so long ago during the pandemic, when rumors spread through the media that there might be shortages of food and essential hygiene products.

I remember it vividly — I went grocery shopping after work and couldn’t find pasta, rice, or grains. Even salt and sugar had vanished from the shelves. It wasn’t because there was a real disruption in supply chains, but because the deliveries were planned based on standard purchasing patterns and typical consumer behavior. Once we collectively panicked and began storming stores to stock up for three months ahead, it was no surprise that we also cleared out the warehouses.

Think back to the absurd situation in the United States with toilet paper — people literally fought over it in supermarkets, and later, it was rationed to limited quantities. In our country, toilet paper remained available, but a new shortage appeared — sanitary pads and tampons. We bought them in panic too, fearing they’d soon disappear. And to think — it wasn’t genuine hunger or a lack of resources that drove us, but the mere shadow of it looming on the horizon. What truly fueled us was fear.

A long time ago, I watched the Divergent series on television. I don’t remember much from it, but one quote has stayed with me to this day: “Fear does something strange to people like Al. But not you. Fear doesn’t shut you down, it wakes you up.”

Al, one of the characters, together with his friends, tried to kill the main heroine — Tris. He was terrified of being excluded from the group and losing his rank. He feared the end of his current life so much that he was willing to take someone else’s. Tris was saved by Four — mysterious, quiet, but incredibly brave, skilled, and, of course, strikingly handsome. The shame and guilt that consumed Al after the incident drove him to take his own life. It was then that Four spoke those unforgettable words to Tris.

I remember wondering what it was — that quality Tris possessed. She wasn’t fearless. She felt fear, but she acted despite it. And that’s the very lesson we learn as adults — to feel fear, but act anyway.

At first, fear often paralyzes us. But eventually, there comes a moment when we step beyond that paralysis — when there’s nothing left to do but act. That fearful numbness can last a long time and may return in similar situations, until we finally realize that it’s not fear itself that’s our greatest enemy, but the powerlessness in which we remain trapped.

I like to think of that moment as hitting our symbolic rock bottom — the point from which we can push ourselves back up, because there’s nowhere lower to go. That’s why people say the most dangerous person is the one who has nothing to lose. But I believe the person who has recognized their own state of “freeze” and overcome it is just as powerful — because they’ve understood that the real danger lies in staying paralyzed and doing nothing.

I used to experience that paralyzing fear many times myself. And afterward, I’d feel hatred toward myself — for not acting, for letting things unfold “as usual.” Now, I still feel fear in situations that once terrified me, but I respond to it differently. It doesn’t mean I’m fearless — it means my senses are sharper in moments of threat. That’s why the phrase “it wakes you up” is so accurate — because that’s exactly what happens. Fear wakes me up. It awakens my body, my senses, my instincts, and my drive to act. Anyone can learn this — how to face fear and consciously transform it into proactivity.

It’s the same with hunger. When we cross a certain threshold of hunger — just as we cross the threshold of fear — paralysis gives way to searching. And I don’t mean only physical hunger, but above all, the inner hunger — the hunger of the heart and soul, longing to return to what they were created for.

I love reading fantasy romances with a political undertone. The lands of Faerie are picturesque, enchanting, and cruel all at once. There’s something about them that draws me in and doesn’t let go. One of my favorite series is A Court of Thorns and Roses. At first glance, it might seem like a typical piece of women’s fiction — a modern fairytale filled with handsome princes, a damsel in distress, and a looming war between wicked kings and noble warriors. Yet, a careful reader soon discovers the story’s depth and complexity.

Feyre, the main heroine, and her family are starving in the midst of a harsh winter. There’s no game left in the nearby woods, so she dares to venture further — into the forbidden lands, dangerously close to the wall that separates the human world from Faerie. There, she manages to hunt a deer and kills a massive wolf, sensing that it’s no ordinary beast. For this act, she is taken beyond the wall — as reparation for the life she took.

At first, the story seems simple. But if you look deeper, you’ll realize that Feyre’s physical hunger was accompanied by a hunger of the mind and soul. As she says, “Hunger had brought me further from home than I usually risked.”

Feyre longed for freedom, love, knowledge, and change. The author masterfully illustrates that it was this very hunger that set everything in motion. Without it, Feyre would never have entered the forest. Without it, she would never have taken the risk. Without it, she would never have broken her own pattern of behavior.

Now, let’s replace the word hunger with need: “Need had brought me further from home than I usually risked.”

How often do you feel the urge to change, to free yourself from something or someone, to travel, to learn something new — yet do nothing about it? Most likely because it’s just a desire, not yet a true need. We can suppress it easily because we’re not yet hungry enough.

It’s only when the hunger grows strong that we finally break through our resistance. Only when we hit rock bottom — when we become spiritually undernourished — do we begin to move forward, beyond the borders of our comfort zone. After all, what could be worse than the numbness in which we currently exist?

Is it the end of the life we once knew — the safe, structured, predictable one? Perhaps it is. But if that end is inevitable, then whether we wait or act, it will find us anyway. And if there’s nothing left to lose, we might as well follow that need — in search of the nourishment we’ve long denied ourselves.

We can rely on our intuition, our longing, and our inner sense of worth — on the quiet conviction that pushes us forward, into the unknown.
